We are saddened to advise that Hockey Queensland Hall of Famer Kym Ireland has passed away.
She was a member of the first Australian women’s hockey team to play at an Olympic Games, with the team finishing fourth at Los Angeles in 1984.
Ireland was the first name on Rockhampton’s honour roll of hockey-playing Olympians, leading the way for other Rockhampton Olympians including Jamie Dwyer, Mark Knowles and Matt Gohdes.
Kym was a coach, a goalkeeper, a field player, an umpire and a volunteer in hockey across Brisbane and Rockhampton.
Our thoughts are with Kym’s family at this time.
