U15 Australian Championships Wrap Up

Published Mon 24 Apr 2023

Queensland have had a dominating campaign at the recent U15 Australian Championships, coming home with both Gold Medals after an undefeated run by the Maroon Boys and Girls Teams.

In Women’s Gold Medal match a hattrick from Lily Punch went unanswered by Victoria securing the Maroon team’s win 3 – 0. The team only conceded 3 goals over the entirety of the tournament.

The Men’s Gold Medal match saw the Queensland Maroon team play strong hockey, but Victoria scored a cracking goal to take the lead 1-0 at quarter time.  The Qld boys came out firing in the 2nd quarter scoring 5 unanswered goals to take the lead 5-1 at half time. Another 3 goals in the final quarter saw the Maroon Boys win 8 -1.

Despite only 1 loss, and an unfortunate cancelled game, the Gold Boys finished 3rd in their Pool and played off for 5th / 6th. A 1 all draw with Western Australia Black saw the team finish equal 5th.

The Queensland Gold Girls move through their round games without a loss sending them to the semi-final against Victoria where they were pipped in shoot-outs. The next day the team played in the Bronze Medal Match against NSW State, where again the match went to shoot-outs. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be, and the Gold Team finished 4th overall.

Maroon Girls – 1st

Gold Girls – 4th

Maroon Boys – 1st

Gold Boys – Equal 5th

Lily Punch (Maroon) and Cody Hale (Maroon) both won their respective Top Scorer Awards, with Lily finishing with 22 and Cody with 21. Aurora Kovacevich finished up as second highest female scorer with 12 goals, and Daniel Evans as third highest male scorer with 11.

All four results are a huge achievement for the Queensland teams. Well done to all involved in the Queensland Campaign.
