TAFE At School Applications Now Open for 2026
Published Fri 01 Aug 2025
Train where the elite train — applications are now open for the 2026 Hockey Queensland TAFE at School program out of the State Hockey Centre!
What is TAFE At School?
TAFE at School gives high school students in Years 10, 11, or 12 the opportunity to get a head start on their career by studying a nationally recognised TAFE Queensland qualification while still completing their secondary education.
Through the Hockey Queensland TAFE at School program, students attend site one day per week in place of their regular school schedule to undertake a vocational education and training (VET) course. This contributes credit toward their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) while building valuable real-world skills in a high-performance sporting environment.
The program will be delivered from the State Hockey Centre providing students with exceptional access to world-class facilities and industry professionals.
In Year 1, students complete the SIS20321 Certificate II in Sport Coaching, with the option to progress into Year 2 to undertake the SIS30521 Certificate III in Sport Coaching — opening pathways into coaching, fitness, sport development, and beyond.
Career Ready
Career Ready is a funding initiative from the Queensland Government that helps eligible students access training that supports their transition from school to work.
Under this funding, much like VETiS had been previously, TAFE Queensland can deliver the Certificate II in Sport Coaching at no cost to eligible students — making it a great opportunity for those pursuing careers in sports coaching.
The Certificate II in Sport Coaching (SIS20321) is currently included on the proposed Career Ready funding list, which means eligible students may be able to access the year-long Hockey Queensland program at no cost.
While TAFE Queensland is in the process of finalising its funding agreements for 2026, we welcome applications in the meantime. Our Student Support team will be available to provide guidance on funding eligibility and next steps at the appropriate time.
