Queensland Development Trip to Melbourne

Published Fri 24 Nov 2023

Two teams comprised of Hockey Queensland Academy Squad Members travelled to Melbourne for a development weekend, hosted by Hockey Victoria and the Hockey Club Melbourne Futures Squad.

The boys and girls teams played three games against HC Melbourne Futures and Hockey Victorian teams across the Friday afternoon and Saturday, undertook training sessions, and engaged in a panel discussion lead by Australian players Savannah Fitzpatrick, Meg Pearce and Tim Howard.

The players and coaches also attended the Hockey One fixture between the Brisbane Blaze and HC Melbourne on Friday 3rd November, a great experience and positive opportunity to engage closely with the current Blaze players post-game.

Hockey Queensland Coaches – Sara Rogers, Meg Pearce, Allan Afonso – lead the group during the training sessions and games, which also provided another great opportunity for these coaches to develop in a no-pressure environment, outside of their home environment. Sav Fitzpatrick and Tim Howard joined the coaching cohort for the Saturday activations, equally great opportunity for both Sav and Tim, and the players.

Hockey Queensland is regularly looking for new development experiences for the Hockey Queensland Academy. Opportunities to play against different players and teams, and in new and different environments, only enhances and heightens the development and learning.
