ONE Active Hockey One Officials 2025

Hockey Queensland has a highly distinguished officiating panel for the ONE Active Hockey One League.

A few of our officials have given us a little insight into their roles and what officiating means to them. Check them out below. 

 

Joanne Greensill

  • Name: Joanne Greensill

  • Nickname: Jo

  • Officiating Level Attained: FIH Centre Panel

  • Role at 2025 H1: Match Manager / Judge

  • Years Officiating at AHL / Hockey One: First AHL was as Tournament Director in 2013

  • Current Hockey Association / Club: Maroochydore Hockey Club Inc

  • Home Town Association(s): Sunshine Coast Hockey Association, Grafton Women’s Hockey Association, Eastern Districts Women’s Hockey Association

  • Occupation / Study: Corporate Grants Management Officer in Local Government

  • Hockey Hero: Too many I admire, can't really narrow it down to one

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Technical Official at 2025 Men's Nations Cup, 2024 FIH Hockey5s World Cup, 2023 FIH Indoor World Cup, and 2022 & 2018 Commonwealth Games. Numerous national and state championships as a technical official, umpire, and Umpires Manager/Coach. Life Member of Hockey Queensland and Maroochydore Hockey Club.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Receiving the Hockey Queensland Life Membership – completely unexpected and a huge honour.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: To give back to the sport that has given me so much. I’ve made lifelong friends who feel like family and love spending time in a sport I’ve been passionate about since I was 11.


Kerry Liebenberg

  • Name: Kerry Liebenberg

  • Nickname: Kezza or Kez (only approved for some to use haha!)

  • Officiating Level Attained: FIH Technical International Panel

  • Role at 2025 H1: Technical Official

  • Years Officiating at AHL / Hockey One: Last year of AHL and all H1 seasons to date

  • Current Hockey Association / Club: Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast)

  • Home Town Association(s): Sunshine Coast (Club - Maroochydore)

  • Occupation / Study: Hockey Queensland Competitions Coordinator

  • Hockey Hero: Alyson Annan

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Current FIH International Tech Panel member, HA Lead Tech Panel, National TD for HA tournaments, Accredited FIH Educator, 2x Pro League events in Australia, State TD for QLD, HA Assessor/Presenter, and completing FIH Trainer accreditation.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Receiving FIH International Panel appointment in July 2023 and mentoring at the Pacific Island Games, working with fellow Oceania officials.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: Officiating is a way to give back to the sport that’s given me so much — from growing up in South Africa to now working across Australia. I love helping other techs develop in the technical space.


Brent Brown

  • Name: Brent Brown

  • Hockey Hero: Brent Livermore – might have something to do with the name and Grafton upbringing!

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): TO at 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup, 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers, Oceania Cups in 2019 and 2023, and TD/ATD at all national age group championships.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Judging the 5-5 Gold Medal Match at the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup in Croatia.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: Meeting incredible people all over the world!

  • Other Interesting Info: Don’t assume speaking German on the bench will let you get away with anything – I understand it!


Chris Harris

  • Name: Chris Harris

  • Nickname: Chris

  • Officiating Level Attained: Development Lead TO

  • Role at 2025 H1: Match Manager / Technical Official

  • Years Officiating at AHL / Hockey One: 5 (since Hockey One began)

  • Current Hockey Association / Club: Brisbane Hockey

  • Home Town Association(s): Townsville (13 years), Cairns (6–7 years), Ipswich (recently)

  • Occupation / Study: Financial Analyst for a real estate company

  • Hockey Hero: Currently Josh Burt, previously Julie Ashton-Lucy

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Former national-level umpire now working in technical roles. ATD at nationals, appointed as TD for national indoor in January 2025. TO’ed 2 international matches before even judging at that level.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Getting the call-up to TO an international series 3 days before the matches — exciting and nerve-wracking first international TO experience.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: The people, the travel, and reconnecting with old friends while meeting new ones at tournaments.


Blake Kroning

  • Name: Blake Kroning

  • Nickname: Blake

  • Current Hockey Association / Club: Brisbane Hockey Association / Kedron Wavell Hockey Club

  • Hockey Hero: Aleisha Neumann

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Started national umpiring in indoor in 2016. First outdoor national appointment in 2022. Progressed to U21s and now debuting at HockeyOne.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Umpiring the 2025 BHA Grand Final with Dodge.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: I love making hockey enjoyable for spectators and growing as a leader. The skills also help me in my teaching career.


Melanie Blanchard

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Started nationals at U15s in 2017. H1 debut in 2024 in Adelaide. Umpired all state champ levels (indoor/outdoor). Awarded HQ Most Promising Umpire in 2022. Umpired friendlies with Malaysia & Japan.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Meeting fiancé Blake during COVID at an indoor match. Also, umpiring H1 debut with her entire family on the sideline.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: The family culture, friendships, and ability to mentor younger umpires.

Aleisha Neumann

  • Name: Aleisha Neumann

  • Nickname: Leish / Newie / Neumo / Skip / Oi You

  • Officiating Level Attained: International – Leading Panel

  • Years Officiating at AHL / Hockey One: Approx. 10

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): 2x Olympian, World Cups, Commonwealth Games. 106 international matches. First woman to umpire top-tier international men’s game and H1. Part of 2019 Blaze championship team.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Umpiring her first international final at the Women’s Asia Cup in China.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: Best seat in the house to watch elite hockey and contribute to the flow of the game.


Steve Rogers

  • Name: Steve Rogers

  • Nickname: Dodge

  • Officiating Level Attained: International

  • Role at 2025 H1: Umpire

  • Years Officiating at AHL / Hockey One: Since 2003

  • Current Hockey Association / Club: Brisbane

  • Home Town Association(s): Ipswich and Brisbane

  • Occupation / Study: Fabrication Manager

  • Hockey Hero: John Wright (Official, South Africa); Teun de Nooijer (Player, Netherlands)

  • Biography (Achievements & Skills): Umpired every state title from U11s to senior. Numerous national and international tournaments. FIH Umpire of the Year 2024.

  • Most Memorable Hockey Moment: Umpiring the Gold Medal Match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

  • Why I Enjoy Officiating: I still get excited every time I walks onto the pitch. I love hearing the anthems and giving back to young officials. I'm a passionate mentor, and love supporting junior umpires in achieving their goals.
