HOCKEY QUEENSLAND LAUNCHES NEW PARTNERSHIP TO BENEFIT MILITARY VETERANS

Hockey Queensland has signed a partnership with Gallipoli Medical Research to support military veterans through awareness, advocacy, and fundraising.

Gallipoli Medical Research, which is based at Greenslopes Private Hospital, addresses biopsychosocial health issues impacting veterans, their families, and the wider Australian community.

Gallipoli Medical Research Chief Executive Officer Miriam Kent said this collaboration recognises that sport provides a trusted gateway to belonging and recovery for veterans.

“Sport can play a vital and visible role in honouring, supporting, and empowering veterans and their families,” Miriam said.

“Queensland is home to the largest veteran population in Australia—Townsville is home to the largest army base in Australia, and Amberley is the country’s largest operational Airforce base—so it makes sense that Queensland takes a lead on this research-informed initiative,” she said.

The Friends of Gallipoli Medical Research initiative brings together Queensland’s peak sporting bodies with the veteran community to foster healthier and connected lives through research.

Hockey Queensland CEO Alison Lyons and Board member Wayne Tucker attended the launch at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
