Macquarie Sports: Helping to Make the Connection

Published Wed 13 May 2026

Macquarie Sports, in partnership with Hockey Queensland, delivered an action‑packed hockey clinic at the Warwick Hockey Association in May - another step on its mission to break down barriers to sport for young Australians.

The clinic brought together more than 200 students from six local schools, giving children from the region the chance to learn new skills, get active, and connect with positive sporting role models. With Macquarie’s support, the program continues to reach communities where access to organised sport can be limited.

A dedicated grant from Macquarie helped ensure that transportation and equipment costs were no obstacle for participating schools. Each child received a stick, ball, and bucket hat to take home to continue their hockey journey.

Local Hockey Heroes Leading the Way

The Warwick Hockey Clinic was powered by local hockey heroes, Oliver Harding (QLD U21), Jamie-Lee Surha (Jillaroos, Brisbane Blaze), Karissa Van der Wath (Hockeyroos, Jillaroos, Brisbane Blaze) and Ryan Wilcox (Brisbane Blaze). They designed engaging drills and coached students throughout each of the two, two-hour sessions. Their energy and expertise created an environment where the kids could build confidence, try new skills, and experience the fun of hockey firsthand.

What’s Next

The momentum continues, with the next Macquarie Sports and Hockey Queensland clinic heading to Hockey Tweed in July. The program will once again bring together schools, coaches, and communities to inspire the next generation of young athletes. Macquarie Sports remains committed to delivering free, high‑quality sporting experiences across nine sports nationwide, especially in regional and remote areas, ensuring every child has the chance to play, learn, and thrive through sport.
