Local Hockey Heroes Leading the Way

Macquarie Sports, in partnership with Hockey Queensland, hosted an exciting school clinic at Hockey Tweed in July, continuing their commitment to making sport more accessible for young Australians.

The clinic brought together more than 250 students from four local schools, giving them the chance to learn basic hockey skills, get active, and connect with sporting role models.

A dedicated grant from Macquarie Sports ensured transport and equipment costs did not prevent schools from attending. To support continued participation, every child received their own hockey stick, ball, and bucket hat to take home.

The Hockey Tweed Clinic was powered by local hockey heroes, Tom Campbell (Brisbane Blaze), Lachlan Davies (Queensland U21) Ashleigh Ensbey (Brisbane Blaze) Jamie-Lee Surha (Jillaroos, Brisbane Blaze), and Ryan Wilcox (Brisbane Blaze). They designed engaging drills and coached students throughout each of the two, two-hour sessions. Their energy and expertise created an environment where the kids could build confidence, try new skills, and experience the fun of hockey firsthand.

Macquarie Sports remains dedicated to ensuring every child has access to quality sporting experiences, regardless of where they live. Through free programs across nine sports, the initiative supports children in regional and remote communities to get active, develop new skills and enjoy the benefits of sport.

Earlier this year, Macquarie Sports teamed up with Hockey Queensland to deliver its first school clinic in Warwick, where more than 200 children were introduced to hockey.
