Hockey Queensland announces Life Member & Distinguished Service Award recipients in 2025

Hockey Queensland is thrilled to announce their latest award recipients for service to hockey in Queensland.  They were announced and awarded at the recent Hockey Queensland Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the Hockey Queensland Championship (HQC) (Men) in Brisbane.

At the AGM, all incumbent board members were re-elected, and appointed directors Todd Fuller and Aaron Averay were confirmed. The Hockey Queensland Board appointed Paul Mantell as President, Claire Henkey as Vice President and Rebecca Sinclair remains as Finance Director.

Hockey Queensland congratulates these incredible members of our community and thanks them for their dedication to our sport. 

 

Life Membership – Kathy Rogers 
Association – Maryborough

  • Lifelong contributor to hockey as a player, coach, umpire, selector, manager and technical official.
  • Significant involvement in programs and operations of Hockey Queensland.
  • Central role in successful delivery of Indoor and Outdoor State Championships for over a decade.
  • Known for ensuring smooth and professional conduct of large-scale events as Championship Convenor, Technical Official, or venue contact.
  • Renowned for her organisational skills and deep operational knowledge.
  • Contributed significantly to Masters Women’s program regionally and state-wide for over five years as a selector.
  • Offered thoughtful and balanced guidance for team development and talent pathways.
  • Positively influenced Masters hockey performance and culture while mentoring emerging selectors.
  • Dedication as an umpire and technical official across junior and senior state championships.
  • Mentored younger umpires and technical officials, particularly those from smaller or emerging associations, and regularly undertakes training and support duties well beyond the scope of her appointed roles.
  • Long been recognised for her calm, methodical presence on site and willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Provided hands-on assistance to administrators with new registration systems across regional associations.
  • Respected ambassador for hockey in Queensland and a role model for players, volunteers, and administrators.

 

Distinguished Service Award  - Darryl Gillam
Association – Warwick 

  •  Involved with Warwick Hockey Association for 65 years, beginning as a Junior in 1960.
  • Held various positions including President (1976-1979, 1986-1988), Secretary (1991-1992), Liquor Licence Holder (1994-2007), and Sports Club Board Member (1994-2007).
  • Led rebuilding efforts of clubhouse (1987), involved in turf field construction (1997), and facilitated rebuild post-flood (2001).
  • Participated in founding the Condamine Sports Club.
  • Coached Minkeys from 1978, Juniors (1978-1993) and various Representative Teams for over 20 years.
  • Managed transition from Junior to Senior teams and maintained involvement in management.
  • Facilities Director (2013-2021) and Patron (2019-present).
  • Dedicated approximately 25 hours weekly to hockey ground maintenance, including mowing, line marking, and facility upkeep.
  • Actively engages with kids and coaches, promoting hockey in Warwick.
  • Long-standing member of Warwick Hockey, known widely in the community.
  • Recognised for his dedication and contributions to hockey by the Warwick Hockey Association committee.
