Jan “PB” Hadfield AM receives Hockey Australia Life Membership

Hockey Queensland is thrilled to announce that Jan “PB” Hadfield AM has been awarded Hockey Australia Life Membership for 2019.

Jan Hadfield retired in 2016, after 32 years of international umpiring duties stretching across three Olympic Games 1988, 2004, 2008 and four World Cups 1990, 2002, 2006 and 2010 – an exceptional contribution to hockey worldwide!

In 2018, Jan became a Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to hockey as an international umpire, and to professional development of officials.

Jan was awarded her Australian Umpire’s Badge in 1977 and was consistently rated as the number one women ‘s umpire in Australia and has generously shared her talents with Australian, Queensland and local hockey groups throughout her illustrious career. Jan was first appointed as an international umpire by FIH in 1984 and awarded World Cup and Olympic rating (International Grade 1 Umpire) in 1987.

She was awarded Hockey Australia’s Official of the Year (female) in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007

In 2006 Jan was awarded the most prestigious Guust Lathouwers Memorial Trophy by the International Hockey Federation for outstanding service to the development and promotion of umpiring worldwide.

Jan also put her talents into sports administration as a Director on the Hockey Queensland Board and in her earlier days represented Queensland as a Player.

Jan is the most successful club coach in the history of Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association as Coach of St Andrews Ladies Hockey Club Division 1.

Her valued contribution as an umpire, coach and administrator is recognised through her Life Memberships of St Andrews Ladies Hockey Club, Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association and Hockey Queensland (HQ), and in 1997 was awarded HQ’s Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, she was awarded Service to Sport in 2017 from the Queensland Government Sports Awards

Jan has generously shared her talents with umpires from local to international level throughout her illustrious career and continues to play a key role on Hockey Queensland’s High Performance Committee.
