Hockey Queensland Championship - Wrap Up

Published Mon 02 May 2022

The Hockey Queensland Championship has wrapped up after a fantastic weekend at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane.

It was a huge long weekend of hockey, bringing over 300 of Queensland's best athletes together across 20 teams to fight it out for their Associations.

The Women's Grand Final brought Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba head to head for a thrilling match.  Toowoomba Co-Captain Rachel Macready scored at the 10 minute mark, then U18 National Champion Savannah Trapp knocked in a field goal before 3 quarter time. Majella Barnes scored a penalty goal late in the 4th, giving hope to Sunshine Coast, but Toowoomba were too good on the day winning 2-1.

In the Men's Grand Final, Townsville scored quickly and then put away the conversion. The Rockhampton men brought it back to 2 -1 in the second, but it looked like Townsville had the game locked in. With only 4 minutes to go, Brock Christensen scored and converted putting Rockhampton in front, before securing his team’s win with a final goal with less than a minute to go. Rockhampton came away State Champions 4 – 2, breaking their 71 year drought.

Thank you to all of the players, team staff, officials, volunteers, commentators and spectators who made the weekend a huge success.
