Community Spotlight: Rockhampton Hockey's Program at Ridgelands State School
Published Thu 03 Jul 2025
In an effort to bring the sport of hockey to rural communities, Rockhampton Hockey has spent the past two weeks engaging with students at Ridgelands State School, located roughly 30 minutes outside of Rockhampton.
Rockhampton Hockey conducted a total of eight sessions, introducing 53 enthusiastic students from prep to grade 6 to the game. Despite the rain on the first day, which required activities to be held under cover, the last three days of the program enjoyed sunshine, greatly enhancing the experience for everyone involved.
The students even talked about local hockey legends, Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles, and Queensland representative player Jackson Willie.
Rockhampton Hockey expressed joy and gratitude for being able to support Ridgelands State School. "Rural schools can miss out, so we're glad to support this school and provide Sporting Schools opportunities to these students," said Megan Lloyd from Rockhampton Hockey.
“Thanks to Ridgelands State School for their warm reception and enthusiastic participation!”
