Blaze Indigenous Strip Unveiled
Published Fri 23 Oct 2026
For the Brisbane Blaze’s Round 3 match-up in the One Active Hockey One League, we are proud to host Indigenous Round at the State Hockey Centre.
The Blaze have strong ties to Australia’s First Peoples. This home round is an opportunity to showcase talent and celebrate the important contributions Indigenous Australians, including our own athletes, have made to hockey. It is also a chance to promote inclusion, respect and reconciliation, while acknowledging the experiences and challenges Indigenous communities have faced.
Against the Adelaide Fire, Brisbane Blaze will wear a special Indigenous uniform designed by Charli Bliss. The artwork reflects Hockey Queensland’s purpose, mission and values, and has featured on Hockey Queensland State Team uniforms for the past five years. Telling a story of Connecting Communities, the design speaks to the Blaze’s connection to Queensland. We are honoured to wear it for Indigenous Round.
The Adelaide Fire will also wear a uniform featuring Indigenous artwork. We are proud to share the stories behind both designs through the voices of the artists, Charli Bliss and Mya Damon, as they explain the significance of their work and what it means to see these stories represented on the national stage.
The story behind the strip
Ahead of Indigenous Round, we had the privilege of hearing Charli Bliss explain the meaning woven into the Brisbane Blaze uniform. Three larger circles represent Promotion, Development and Engagement, while three smaller circles represent players, coaches and spectators. Together, these details tell a story of connecting communities. The boomerang symbol represents cultural endurance and a tangible link to Indigenous peoples on Country. It also reflects Hockey Queensland’s commitment to acknowledging and respecting Indigenous histories and cultures, and taking genuine action towards reconciliation across Queensland.
Mya Damon, the artist behind the Adelaide Fire uniform, shared the meaning of her artwork. It represents Hockey SA’s core values and the strong community ties that bring people together through hockey. Circles reflect the diversity of those communities and their passion for the sport, while journey lines connect them. The colours represent South Australia, and kangaroo tracks honour the Kaurna people’s connection to Country.
See both teams proudly wear their uniforms at our Round 3 home game on 24 October 2026.
