Applications Open: Hockey Queensland Board Member

Hockey Queensland is seeking nominations for elected board member positions and expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment to the Board as Non-Executive Directors.

We are seeking contemporary board leaders who bring strategic insight, strong governance capability and a commitment to community sport. Rather than specific professional backgrounds, we are interested in individuals who can contribute experience in areas such as:

• Strategic leadership and organisational transformation
• Commercial growth, revenue diversification and partnerships
• Financial oversight and risk management
  
• Digital, innovation and technology strategy
  
• Participation growth and community engagement
• High performance sport systems
• Government relations and stakeholder engagement
• People, culture and organisational development
• ESG, integrity and contemporary governance practices.

Diversity of background, geography, gender and lived experience is strongly encouraged. Experience in hockey is not required; however, a genuine commitment to the role of sport in strengthening communities is essential.

The Role of a Director

As a Non-Executive Director, you will:

• Contribute to setting and monitoring the strategic direction of the organisation
• Provide oversight of financial performance, risk and compliance
• Appoint, support and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer
• Ensure strong governance, integrity and accountability standards
• Contribute to Board committees as required
• Act in the best interests of the organisation and its members.

Directors are expected to attend approximately nine Board meetings per year (in person or via videoconference), participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute to committee work as required.

Directors will serve a three-year term commencing at the conclusion of Hockey Queensland’s Annual General Meeting (held 2 May 2026) and are eligible for re-election or reappointment, subject to a maximum of ten consecutive years’ service. Appointed Directors may serve up to six consecutive years in that capacity within the overall ten-year limit.

Nomination Information Required
Director Identification Number:
Under new legislation introduced in 2021 all company directors are required to verify their identity via a unique “Director Identification Number” (DIN). For more information on obtaining a DIN please click here.
If you already have a DIN please provide the number in your nomination/application.. If you do not have a DIN please be informed that if you are elected on to the Hockey Qld Board you will be required to apply and provide your number to the CEO.

Blue Card:
In line with legislation and Hockey Qld’s commitment to child safety you will be required to provide a valid blue card as part of your nomination. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind. Please provide your blue card number in your nomination/application. If you do not have
a blue card please provide the receipt number of your application to obtain a blue card.

As per item 14.5 (a) of the Constitution, the Hockey Queensland Nominations Committee will review all nominations and make a recommendation to the members on suitability

• A brief cover letter outlining your motivation and the skills and experience you would bring to the Hockey Queensland Board.
• A nomination for an elected board position must be signed by the nominator and nominee.
