2026 Parliamentary Friends of Hockey

What a fantastic opportunity to showcase the power of hockey in Queensland at this year’s Parliamentary Friends of Hockey event!
In front of Members of Parliament, invited guests, Association representatives and Olympians, Hockey Queensland was proud to highlight the breadth of our programs and the impact hockey is having across communities throughout the state.
We were especially thrilled to feature guests from Belong in Hockey Toowoomba and students from our Brisbane Blaze x TAFE Queensland Program on the panel, alongside Olympians Matt Wells OAM and Angie Lambert OAM.
With the Gold Coast recently announced as host of the 2026 Hockey One Finals, and FIH Pro League matches coming to Queensland in 2027, it was fantastic to have key stakeholders on the green as we continue building momentum on the road to Brisbane 2032.
This year’s event also included interactive hockey skill stations, giving attendees the chance to get involved firsthand, and there were plenty of laughs along the way.
While hockey is Australia's most successful Olympic team sport, its greatest impact is often found away from the elite stage. It is in local clubs, regional communities, volunteer-led programs, inclusive participation initiatives and the thousands of Queenslanders who connect through our game every week.
Events like Parliamentary Friends of Hockey are incredibly important in helping us advocate for the future of our sport - supporting participation growth, strengthening our international hosting ambitions, and continuing to inspire the next generation of Olympic dreams.
With Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, hockey has an incredible opportunity to contribute to a lasting legacy for Queensland, one that extends beyond medals to participation, community connection, health, inclusion and regional development.
