Queensland State Hockey Centre Welcomes Paris 2024 Turf, Marking Second Location in Australia

Published Tue 05 Mar 2024

Hockey Queensland and the State Hockey Centre is proud to announce the completion and official unveiling of Field 1, with the installation of the cutting-edge Poligras Paris GT turf.

The inaugural event to grace the newly surfaced Field 1 will be the Hockey Brisbane (Men & Women) Division 1 Gala Day last weekend. Subsequently, the venue is set to host The Hockey Queensland Championship at the end of April.

The installation commenced immediately following the conclusion of the 2023 JDH Hockey One League season in November.

This state-of-the-art turf mirrors the quality of the Paris 2024 Olympic Pitch, making Field 1 only the second facility of its kind in Australia. The Ipswich Hockey Association achieved the milestone last year with the installation of the same field.
The Queensland State Hockey Centre extends its gratitude to the Brisbane City Council and Polytan for their invaluable contributions to the successful completion of Field 1, elevating the standard of hockey facilities in Queensland.

Paul Kamphuis, General Manager, Polytan Asia Pacific said, "We are proud of our continued partnership with Hockey Queensland and excited to have installed the world’s greenest turf at Queenland’s home of hockey.  Using sugarcane as a bio-raw material means that our Poligras Paris GT turf saves 73 tonnes of CO2 compared to a conventional turf.”

Queensland High Performance Coach Matt Wells hails the Polytan surface as one of the best he has experienced, marking an exciting development for the State Hockey Centre. "The surface boasts a non-slippery quality, ensuring the ball runs smoothly with no bumps or skips. Additionally, its low water requirements and water retention, coupled with a dense pile, further enhance its performance."
