Queensland Live Streaming In 2024

After careful consideration of the significant financial constraints and product viability concerns, Hockey Queensland has made the decision to discontinue live streaming or video recording any of their State Championships or other hockey events this year.  

As Hockey Queensland navigates a conservative budget for 2024 and prioritises efforts in recruitment and retention, tough choices were made regarding expenditures, including those associated with live streaming production. 

Following the administration of the live streaming service Cluch in 2023, Hockey Queensland began reviewing live streaming options for 2024. Live-streaming was a notable expense in the 2023 budget, and the low viewership numbers rendered it financially unsustainable to continue such investment. Coupled with the limited viewership, indications were that the service primarily catered to individuals directly affiliated with participants, rather than benefiting the broader Queensland hockey community.

This decision was not taken lightly, and we acknowledge the disappointment it may bring to our members. 

While Hockey Australia has adopted an AI-driven approach to live streaming for the Australian Indoor Championships and the recent U21 Australian Championships, upon careful evaluation, it was determined that this model was not suitable for Queensland’s members, the pay-per-view audience, or affiliated Associations at this time.

Delegates from the Associations have been informed of this decision, with no significant opposition noted and members are encouraged to reach out to their Association if there are further concerns they wish to raise with Hockey Queensland on this decision. 

Hockey Queensland understands that this may be a source of frustration and disappointment for our members, as it is for Hockey Queensland.
