Queensland Off to Flying Start in U18 Women's Nationals
The Australian U18 Women’s National Championships commenced today at the State Hockey Centre Brisbane, with Queensland starting the competition in great form.
The home side managed to defeat the Northern Territory 3 – 0 in their first game of the tournament. Queensland opened the scoring when Jasmine Larosa converted an early penalty corner in the 11th Minute. Queensland then dominated possession for the majority of the first half.
The second half started with more of the same, highlighted by strong defence by Northern Territory until Stephanie Kershaw managed to score from another Queensland penalty corner in the 62nd minute. Queensland’s third goal came soon after in the 62nd minute at the hand of Murphy Allendorf with a great field goal.
After the game Queensland coach Sharyn Simpson noted Queensland’s great start but stated they will have to convert more goals to win the competition. Simpson highlighted great performances from Taylor Evens, Stephanie Kershaw and Tamara Lloyd-Jones.
Queensland plays New South Wales tomorrow morning at 9.00am in what is always one of Hockey’s great rivalries.
