QLD UNDER 18 WOMEN GO DOWN FIGHTING
In an extremely close fought clash, the Queensland Under 18 women’s hockey team suffered a narrow defeat in penalty corners by Victoria in the semi-finals of the Australian Championship in Brisbane.
Murphy Allendorf opened the scoring for the Queenslanders from a penalty corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The Queenslanders appeared to have control early in the second half before Victoria fought back with goals to Alice Tulloch and Sophie Taylor, both from penalty corners.
Queensland evened the scores through a great team build up when Tiarna Gordon scored, again from a penalty corner. The score at full-time was 2-2.
With no additional goals scored in a very even extra time, the game went to penalty corners where the Victorians snatched their victory 4 goals to 2.
Victoria will now play New South Wales in the Grand Final tomorrow (Saturday)with Queensland taking on Western Australian for third place.
