QLD U21 WOMEN FINISH THIRD AT NATIONALS

— filed under:

Queensland's Under 21 Women's hockey team finished third at the 2011 Australian Under 21 Women's Championship which wrapped-up in Canberra over the weekend.

Queensland were defeated 3-0 by WA in one of two semi-finals on Friday and therefore missed out on the opportunity to contest Saturday's grand final.

The Queensland team did finish the tournament on a high note though, defeating last year's champions VIC 1-0 in the playoff for third place.

Special mention must be made of Queensland's Alyssa Kerr who was named Player of the Tournament, and Kandice Olivieri who was one of the tournament's two highest goal scorers.

Kandice finished the tournament with eight goals to her name, the last of which was the only goal scored in Queensland's playoff for the bronze medal.
