QLD continue top form in national hockey tournament
The Queensland Under 18 Women’s hockey team defeated reigning national champions Victoria 2-0 yesterday afternoon in day six of the 2011 Australian Under 18 Women’s Championship at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane.
The victory reignited Queensland’s campaign following a 1-1 draw to the Australian Capital Territory on Thursday and a narrow 4-2 defeat to Western Australia on Saturday.
The win over Victoria has secured Queensland third position on the national ladder leading into day eight of the championship which will be played out tomorrow following a rest day today.
Queensland will take on Tasmania tomorrow at 9am and South Australia at 1pm on Wednesday before another rest day on Thursday ahead of classification and finals matches to be played over this Friday and Saturday.
Tasmania is currently ranked at the bottom of the ladder in eighth position and South Australia is ranked sixth.
The top four ranked teams of the championship are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory respectively.
Queensland will take confidence into coming matches from wins or draws in games against all the top ranked states.
