OAMPS Queensland Scorchers Vs New South Wales Arrows

— filed under:

Round 2 of the Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) continued today at the Cairns Hockey Centre with one of the most anticipated games of the weekend, The OAMPS Queensland Scorchers Vs New South Wales Arrows.

The first 20 minutes of play saw plenty of speed and action from both sides, but neither team could convert their skilful play into points.  Until the 21st minute when Stephanie Purdy from NSW capitalised on some great pressure and scored a excellent field goal.  The first half ended how it started with both sides applying pressure at times, but no further goals were scored.

The speed of play did not slow down in the second half even though both teams looked tired in the Cairns humidity.  In the 46th minuet Queenslander Amy Korner brought the score back to 1-1 with a spectacular deflection.  This seemed to lift the Queenslanders as well as the Cairns crowd and in the 55th minute some more individual brilliance from Korner saw QLD go one up.

The final result was sealed in the 68th minute when captain Madonna Blyth scored and put Queensland 2 points in front.

Final Score, QLD 3 NSW 1
