Mixed Results for Scorchers and Blades in game 1 in Darwin
The Queensland Scorchers and Queensland Blades had mixed results in game 1 against the Northern Territory in round 3 of the AHL.
QUEENSLAND SCORCHERS THRASH TERRITORY PEARLS 5-0
The Queensland Scorchers have thrashed the Paspaley Territory Pearls 5-0 in their first game of the week-end this afternoon in Darwin.
Australian Hockey League debutant Lauren Richards scored two goals in her first game for the Scorchers, scoring two goals just three minutes apart in the first half.
Richards made a big impact on the game, having come on the field in the tenth minute and scoring two minutes later with a field goal. She followed up quickly to convert from a deflected penalty corner just 3 minutes later with a penalty corner in the 15th minute.
Scorchers midfielder Prue Eiser followed suit before half time with another field goal, giving the Queenslanders a 3-0 lead into the half time break.
Scorchers stalwarts Susie Faulkner and Angie Lambert took the game beyond doubt with a field goal and penalty corner respectively in the second half.
QUEENSLAND BLADES BEATEN 1-0 IN OVERTIME
The Queensland Blades were dealt a wake up call in their first loss of the Australian Hockey League season when they went down 0-1 to the Territory Stingers in overtime this evening in Darwin.
The Northern Territory made the most of their acclimatisation of the hot, humid weather and held the Blades 0-0 throughout the game. The locals played a physical, strong match allowing the Blades only 3 corners for the entire game.
Having not travelled to Darwin in the 2006 AHL season may have hindered the Blades games this week-end, as they struggled with the humidity and suffered their first ever defeat to the Stingers.
