OAMPS Scorchers Remain Undefeated
The OAMPS Queensland Scorchers remain undefeated in the 2008 AHL tournament after defeating the Northern Territory Pearls 4-0.
The OAMPS Queensland Scorchers produced a steady performance
during their round three match at the AHL to hand the NT Pearls another
defeat.
The first game of round three saw the Scorchers in attack for most of
the first half, setting up many short corners attempts. Strong goalie
work by Tarryn Aldridge and the Pearl's defence restricted Queensland's
attack, however the Pearls still found themselves three goals down at
half time.
The first goal of the match was a solo run by Suzie Faulkner who weaved
passed three players and converted in the 16th minute. The second was
one of many penalty corners. Faulkner went on to score two more goals
for the match as she proved to be a handful for the NT back half.
Angela Croad, Mayumi Ono and Samantha Gale were all serviceable for the
Pearls, but could do little to restrict the Scorchers attack at half
time.
The second half saw Queensland in attack for the first 15 minutes
however the Pearl's were valiant in defence. The second half was evenly
divided with both teams having little success in the circle until a
late penalty corner gave the Scorchers their fourth goal. The ball was
initially meant as a left deflection but floated into goals off the
goal keeper's pads giving Faulkner her third goal for the game.
One last run by the Pearls was a near goal as Ono and Gale took the
ball past Angie Lambert, only to see the ball sail wide of the
goals.
While the Scorchers secured a comfortable win the Pearls will take some
positives out of their second half efforts.
The Scorchers remain undefeated at the tournament.
