Debbie Wark earns double honour

Debbie Wark was honoured with both the Manager of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards at the Hockey Queensland Awards Night held in Brisbane over the weekend.

In 2011, Debbie forfeited the opportunity to continue playing representative veterans hockey to manage the Queensland women’s development team on their tour to Shanghai, China.

In recent years Debbie has played representative veterans hockey for Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association (BWHA), Queensland and Australia.

Hockey Queensland’s Coach and Player Development Manager Barry Vohland said Debbie was keenly sought after to fill the position after doing such a great job managing the team last year.

“Deb did an incredible amount of work in preparation for the tour to China,” Vohland said.

“She went over and above what any manager would be realistically expected to do.

“Deb has a fantastic rapport with the players and her efforts are of great assistance to the coach and off-field staff.”

Debbie was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award as recognition for her contribution to Redcliffe Leagues Hockey Club and BWHA.

As well as being a valuable Redcliffe Leagues’ player, Debbie donates her time to developing junior umpires and coaching senior teams at the club.

With BWHA, Debbie is a member of the Board of Management and the Chair of the junior component of the association.

Debbie’s role as Chair requires her to organise fixtures and development opportunities for more than 1600 junior players.

Congratulations Debbie on your achievements and thank-you for your enduring support of our sport!
