With seconds to go in NSW led 2-3, a penalty corner awarded to Queensland on the full time siren promised the chance at levelling the score.  A win for New South Wales would have meant that they would take the outright lead of the tournament and Queensland weren’t about to let that happen. Queensland’s penalty corner was converted by Daniel Beale after some precise passing from his team mates, Beale’s goal ensuring a 3–3 draw and securing Queensland’s lead of the tournament

Queensland quickly levelled the score only a minute later through Kane Posselt.

After hosting the Under 18 Women's National Championship in 2009, Hockey ACT in conjunction with Hockey Australia gets set to host the Under 18 Men's National Championships at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham from Tuesday 6 April.

The tournament is expected to be a tightly contested affair with reining Champions, Queensland looking to make it four in a row, having beaten New South Wales in the last three finals from 2007-2009.
