Championship Selection Procedures
The following outlines how Hockey Australia intends upon fulfilling umpire panel appointments for all National Championships:
Timeline/ Order of process
- Hockey Australia Umpire Ranking Lists to be updated following performances at National Championships – by end of November each year.
- Provisional ranking list to be distributed to State Association’s to ascertain any new umpires for consideration/ removal of inactive umpires for the next year.
- Indoor Open/ U21Panel to be appointed and have confirmed acceptances by the middle of November.
- Due to the uncertainty of scheduling of National Championships, panels will be appointed with a minimum of 2 months prior to the start of each championship.
Action by Umpires
Upon receiving appointment notification via email, umpires are to take the following action within a fortnight:
· Contact Hockey Australia and CONFIRM acceptance or
· Contact Hockey Australia and REJECT appointment citing reason for unavailability
Other actions to be undertaken by Hockey Australia
- Umpires only to be selected on one panel (including as a reserve) initially
- Reserve umpires to be listed in order of ranking on panel document
- Local senior umpires to be utilised part-time as appropriate to strengthen panels and assist younger umpires
- Panels to be available for public viewing on HA website under Officiating page once finalised – posted approx two weeks prior to championship
- Maintain a list of umpires who are selected for a championship and are unavailable or withdraw as a possible option for a different championship
- Provisional and final panel sent out to ensure continued ability to track number of withdrawals from panel and answer state enquiries regarding withdrawals, non-appointments etc
