China’s best to hit Colmslie
A line-up of China’s most talented hockey players will take on Queensland open women’s, under 21, under 18 and development teams at the State Hockey Centre at Colmslie next week.
The visit of the Shanghai women’s team follows a successful tour of the Queensland’s women’s development team to Shanghai in August.
The highlight of the Shanghai team’s schedule will be their clash with the OAMPS Queensland Scorchers open women’s team on Thursday October 13 at 6.00pm at the State Hockey Centre.
Following their matches in Brisbane, the Shanghai players will also enjoy some sightseeing and extra matches against Queensland teams on the Gold Coast.
Queensland Coach and Player Development Manager Barry Vohland said the Shanghai women’s team would bring welcome competition for the Queensland players.
“It will be a great opportunity for the Queensland girls to play a team of such high calibre in their off season,” he said.
“The Shanghai team really put the Queensland girls to the test on their home turf in August, so it will be great to see if they are just as competitive under the different playing conditions here in Queensland.”
The series between the Shanghai and Queensland women’s teams has been made possible through Hockey Queensland’s collaboration with contacts in China, supplied by world-renowned Queensland umpire Jan Hadfield.
