Brisbane to host Men’s Premier League Hockey

— filed under:

The two most anticipated events on the Queensland men’s hockey calendar will be held at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane over this long weekend.

The 2011 Men’s Premier League and State Open Championships will begin tomorrow Saturday 30th April and wrap-up on Monday 2nd May.

Strong performance at the events provide players with a strong stepping stone to selection in the OAMPS Queensland Blades open men’s team and also the Queensland Under 21 Men’s team.

The teams to contest the 2011 Premier League include teams from Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville and two teams from Brisbane.

Brisbane 1 won the 2010 Premier League, defeating Toowoomba in the grand final.

The teams to contest the 2011 State Open Championship include teams from Brisbane, Bundaberg, the Gold Coast, Gympie, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and two teams from Ipswich.

The winner of the 2011 State Open Championship will be promoted to compete in the 2012 Premier League, and the bottom ranked team of the 2011 Premier League will be demoted to compete in the 2012 State Open Championship.
