About Bundaberg Hockey Association:

Bundaberg Hockey Association was established in 1933 with 3 clubs involved.  The Association started with 6 teams and one field.  In 1946 the "clubhouse" was built and could only best be described as a tin shed.  '46 also introduced the first intercity meets between Gladstone and Maryborough.  This went on to include Gympie, Hervey Bay and Sunshine Coast.  In 1948 we developed 2 additional fields with a New Zealand tour there for the first time in 1958.  1957 saw 5 players making the Queensland representative sides. This is a record in itself, as this number has not been beaten.

In 1991 the introduction of an artificial surface changed the way hockey had been played for some 60 years beforehand.  The game now moved from being played on grass to a much more skilful and fast game on a surface that left nothing up to luck.  This led to the development of the Premier League competition between Bundaberg, Maryborough, and Gympie in 1994 and still continues today in both the Senior Men's and Women's grades.
