The Darwin Airport Resort Territory Pearls Vs The Tasmanian Van Demons.
Round 2 of the Women’s Australian Hockey League (AHL) kicked off today at the Cairns Hockey Centre with a dynamic clash between The Darwin Airport Resort Territory Pearls and The Tasmanian Van Demons.
A fast paced first half began with several missed opportunities from Tasmania, with the majority of play in NT’s half. It wasn’t until the 28th minute that Tasmania opened the scoring with a sensational field goal by Kirsten Pearce.
However NT managed to even the score in the last minute of the first half with a great penalty Corner from Heather Langham.
The second half began with some great end to end Hockey, with both teams having chances at the goal. But again it was Tasmania that opened the scoring with a penalty corner in the 42nd minuet (Sophie McLeod).
This was followed by a barrage of four goals by the Tasmanians’ that sealed the game in their favour, goals were scored by Emily Wilson 50’, Fiona Pearce 60’, Hannah Calvert 64’ and Michelle Cooling 67’.
A last minute fight back saw NT score in the 69th minute with a great field goal by Emily Smith, however it was to late.
