How can I register for a hockey club in Queensland, and how much does it cost?
Either contact Hockey Queensland or visit our website to find out the closest association to you. Listed will be contact details for each association. Contact the relevant association and they will be able to assist with your enquiry. The cost of registration will vary depending on your age and the competition in which you are playing, as well as individual club and association costs. Your chosen club will be able to assist you with this when you join.
Where can I find information about Hockey Queensland associations and clubs?
To find out information regarding Hockey Queensland associations and clubs visit the associations page on our website and select the association closest to where you are looking to play. The various clubs are listed on each association’s page.
I have never played before but wish to start playing hockey – can I do this?
Hockey is a sport for people of all ages and abilities so to find out what options are available for you to start your hockey experince please contact your nearest association. For younger players the best starting point would be Hook in2 Hockey. Click here to find out about this program.
Who do I contact if I am coming to Queensland and wish to play hockey?
You can either contact Hockey Queensland or use our website to find the contact details for your nearest association. If you are unsure of your closest association then we can advise you of one.
How old does my child need to be to start learning hockey?
To become a registered player the child must be at least 6 years of age. However it is advised to check with your association for any programs they may be running for younger children.
What is Hook in2 Hockey and how do I get involved?

Do I need to purchase hockey equipment for little kids hockey?
Junior size and modified equipment is available for purchase. All Hook in2 Hockey participants receive a stick, ball and shin guards when they join.
Where are hockey fields located in Queensland?
Hockey Fields, both grass and synthetic surfaces, are located all over Queensland. If you visit our associations’ page, each association has listed their playing fields. To use there fields contact the relevant club or association.

Where is the State Hockey Centre Located?
The entrance to the State Hockey Centre is located at 400-420 Lytton Road Colmslie. Follow Col Gardner Drive through to parking and fields.
How do I become involved in umpiring/Coaching?
To become involved with umpiring or coaching hockey in Queensland, contact your nearest association. Association details can be found by clicking here.
How do I become an accredited umpire/coach?
To find out everything about becoming an accredited coach, visit the Hockey Australia website at www.hockey.org.au. Select the Game Development Tab at the top of the screen and click HockeyEd.
Where can i obtain Hockey Education Resources?
Hockey Education resources can be obtained by visiting the Hockey Australia website at www.hockey.org.au or by purchasing resources from Just Hockey shops. For Just Hockey shops phone 3857 6118 or 3399 7155.

How do I go about hiring a field at the State Hockey Centre?
Download a booking form by clicking here. Once complete you can either fax to Hockey Queensland on 339 6577 or email to statehockeycentre@hockeyqld.com.au
What public transport options are there for the State Hockey Centre?
The closest train stations to the State Hockey Centre are Cannon Hill and Morningside train stations located roughly 20 mins walk from the centre. The closest bus stop is approximately 10 minutes walk. To find out about public transport options click here.
What accommodation is available around the centre?
Two of the closest options for accommodation near the State Hockey Centre are the Colmslie Hotel and Carindale Hotel. There are also various accommodation options in and around the Storey Bridge and Kangaroo Point areas.

Hockey Queensland publishes any new vacancies in the ‘About HQ’ section of the website under Positions Vacant. Details for procedures on how to apply for any positions will be listed along with the Position Description.

Is it possible to send fan mail to an Australian player?
This can be done through Hockey Australia. Either visit the website at www.hockey.org.au or contact them on 03 9555 1500
Who selects the Australian teams?
The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos are selected by a selection panel appointed by Hockey Australia that is headed by the National Coach of each team.
What is the AHL?
The AHL (Australian Hockey League) is the premier competition in Australia with teams from all states and territories competing. This competition provides an important platform for players’ looking at a spot in the Australian teams. Queensland is represented by the OAMPS Queensland Blades in the men’s and the OAMPS Queensland Scorchers in the women’s. Both these teams have strong records in this competition with the Blades winning four out of the last five championships and the Scorchers winning in 2005 and runner’s up in 2006 and 2007. How do I get tickets and information on this competition?
Matches for the OAMPS Queensland Blades and OAMPS Queensland Scorchers in the AHL are usually played at the State Hockey Centre throughout March and April. Information will be available on our website closer to the time of competition.
Which players currently play for the OAMPS Queensland Blades and OAMPS Queensland Scorchers?

How are players selected to under age Queensland representative teams?
The selection process is usually finalised after the state championships for the particular age group. Players need to nominate before the state championships if they wish to be considered for selection into these teams.
How can I find out about upcoming hockey tournaments in Queensland?
There is 2 ways to find out information regarding tournament. Events calendar on Hockey Queensland website. Championship schedule on Hockey Queensland website.
Where can I purchase hockey equipment?
Just Hockey shops are located at the State Hockey Centre at Colmslie and on Lutwyche Road at Windsor. To contact the shops ring 3399 7155 for the State Hockey Centre shop and 3857 6118 for the Lutwyche Road shop. Equipment can also be purchased at other various venues around Queensland. How can I obtain photos of hockey players, teams and matches?
Photos can be obtained from Hockey Queensland website, Hockey Australia website and the websites of other states.
Where can I find the rules of hockey?
To obtain rules of hockey visit the International Hockey Federation’s website at www.fihockey.org and click on the Rules tab. There is also a link on the Hockey Queensland Website under Umpires and Tech.
Where can I find insurance details relating to Hockey Queensland?

How do I find out whether or not a match is cancelled due to wet weather at the State Hockey Centre?
To find out if a fixture game has been cancelled contact the wet weather information phone on 1900 962 018. The State Hockey Centre Duty Supervisors will update the wet weather information as the inclement weather and conditions change.
